Definition

Length in which the user sees the product ID, including any formatting characters specified in the Product ID template field.

You can define the product ID length in the Customizing step Define Output Format and Storage Form of Product IDs.

Specifics in CRM
If you want to upload products from the CRM System to an OLTP System from product maintenance using the Transfer product to OLTP option and use the product ID as the material number for the material created in the OLTP System, you are strongly advised to specify a maximum length of 18 characters for the product ID.
If you want to work with product IDs which have more than 18 characters, the product can only be transferred to the OLTP System as a material if the material number is assigned internally. However, this means that the material number in the OLTP System will no longer enable you to identify which product is assigned to the material in the CRM System.
