Definition

The alias is an additional identifier used for a set type attribute at category level. It is required because an attribute ID is not unique.

The alias is used to facilitate communication between the CRM System and other SAP Systems (for example, APO etc.), particularly regarding the configuration of products.

An alias is used for the following reasons:

  • It provides unique identification for configurable attributes and attributes relevant to configuration within object dependencies. If you intend to use an attribute in object dependencies or variant conditions, you will require the alias.
  • It is identical to the ERP characteristic name and therefore simplifies mapping when configuration data is exchanged between SAP Systems.
  • It represents a characteristic in the Product Modeling Environment (PME).

An alias has to be maintained for configurable attributes and attributes relevant to configuration. For other attributes, the use of an alias is optional.

Important
An alias must be assigned uniquely within a product category. The system does not only take into account attributes contained in the set types assigned to the category, but also inherited attributes. Within a hierarchy, each set type attribute must have a unique alias.
