Documentation

Definition

Date on which the document was entered in financial accounting or cost accounting.

Use

From the posting date, the SAP system determines the fiscal year and period from the posting date needed to update the accounts or cost elements contained in the document.

During document entry, the system checks whether the posting date specified is valid by comparing it to the allowed posting periods.

A posting period is allowed if it meets the following criteria:

  • The period is not locked
  • The controlling area is defined for this period
  • Cost center accounting is defined in the controlling indicator

Note

The posting date may differ from the entry date (date entered into the system), as well as from the document date (date the original document was created).

Supplementary Documentation - CO_BUDAT 0001

Dependencies

If you do not enter a date, the last day of the accounting period is defaulted as the posting date.

If you enter a posting date, it is used to determine the posting period.

Supplementary Documentation - CO_BUDAT 0003

Note

The system reads the control parameters for the given controlling area from the controlling area itself and from the fiscal year. Note that you do not need to redefine the control parameters every year; they are valid as of the given fiscal year for which the system creates the parameters.
