Definition
Key that controls which costs of a material item are used in the itemization as a basis for calculating overhead.
Use
You use the cost component view in Customizing to define what part of the cost components is included in stock valuation, commercial valuation, and tax-based valuation.
Overhead is calculated on the basis of data in the itemization. In this case, you can establish which value from the itemization is used for overhead application by entering a cost component view.
- With a standard cost estimate, overhead is usually applied to costs that are flagged as cost components for stock valuation in Customizing.
If you want to calculate variances using the standard cost estimate, you should ensure that the overhead is calculated on the basis of the costs that are relevant to valuation. This ensures that the actual costs and the target costs have the same basis.
- With a modified standard cost estimate, a current cost estimate and an inventory cost estimate you can enter another view.
Procedure
If you do not make an entry, the system will use the costs of the material item that are assigned to stock valuation.
Examples
If the cost estimate incorporates semifinished products whose costs include the cost of goods manufactured, sales and administration costs, and so forth, you can use the cost component view to specify that the material overhead surcharges for the semifinished products are to be calculated only on the basis of the cost of goods manufactured and not on the basis of the sales and administration costs.
Dependencies
The cost component view affects the printout of cost estimates carried out in the background. The view you enter affects the total values for each costing item in the itemization and also for each cost component issued in the costing reports.
