Definition
If you select the field 'Characteristic values', you get to the relevant screen within the definition of a drill-down report.
You get a list of characteristics with one entry field per characteristic on the 'Characteristic values' screen. If you do not fill them in, all characteristic values of this characteristic are read, so for example, you would get all branches for the characteristic 'Branch'. Otherwise only the characteristic value which you have entered will be read, for example only 'Electricals' for branch.
You also have the possibility of entering a variable instead of a fixed characteristic value. Global variables which can be supplied via a User-Exit or from the system are allowed. Secondly, you can also use variables (local or global) which are to be filled in with a user entry. Such variables are offered on the 'Variable entry ' screen or when executing the report.
With characteristics, for which hierarchies are defined, you have the possibility of entering hierarchy nodes. If, for example, a hierarchy is defined for the characteristic 'Customer', you can select the hierarchy node 'Retail trade' and all customers, which are assigned to this node will be contained in it.
If you have selected a characteristic, which is not offered in the characteristic selection, please note, that it can be set in this way (s. field catalog). Here you can also establish, that a charactistic value must be assigned to a characteristic.
If you find a characteristic on the list which needs a value assigned to it, it could be because it is a currency-bearing characteristic. If you use a key figure 'Revenue in company currency', 'company code' is the currency-bearing characteristic. It must then always be selected and specified, if the key figure belonging to it is selected.
Which characteristics are offered depends on the selection conditions in the form. It would, for example, make no sense to enter 'fiscal year = 1994' in the form and 'fiscal year = 1995' in the report. It is because of this that only the characteristics where this sort of inconsistency does not appear are offered.
