Documentation
Use
This means that activity types determined within the object hierarchy are passed on from this activity group to lower-level objects. They are passed on if the priority of the activity type determined in the lower-level object is lower than that of the higher-level object.
Example
If activity type x, priority 100 is determined on object hierarchy level 1 and, on level 2, activity type y is determined with priority 90, level 2 will "inherit" activity type x, assuming inheritance is active.
