Definition
You use data sets to split attributes for an application object into meaningful business units. Each attribute can only belong to one data set. When you are defining views, you can assign a data set to a view.
If an application uses divisibility (like SAP Business Partner), the relevant data sets are assigned to each object part (these being BP roles in SAP Business Partner). This is a so-called n:m assignment. This means that several data sets can be assigned to each object part, but also that a data set can be assigned to several object parts.
In Release 4.6D the data set is also used in field grouping. When you make settings for the field status in the implementation guide, the field groups are displayed as depending on the data sets.
