Definition

The stock days' supply shows the number of days the stock of a material suffice if only the plant stock is viewed.

In Customizing, you can set the Safety Stock indicator to specify whether the number of days relate to the safety stock or to actual stock.

If the number of days relates to the safety stock - the standard setting - the number of days until stock falls below the safety stock level is calculated. If the number of days relates to the stock actually in existence, the number of days until the stock has fallen below 0 is calculated.

In the MRP list and the current stock/requirements list, materials with critical days' supplies (ranges of coverage) are denoted by red traffic lights. You cn specify yourself which number of days is to be regarded as critical.

Dependencies

The indicator for inclusion of the safety stock is maintained in Customizing for Requirements Planning or consumption-based planning in the step Define Receipt Elements for Receipt Days' Supply.

Example

Calculation of the days' supply: Starting from the current plant stock, one requirement after another is deducted along the time axis until a situation of undercoverage (insufficient stock coverage) arises (requirements > stock). The days' supply is then the number of workdays between today's date and the date of the requirement that led to the undercoverage situation less one day. The decimal point value is the relationship between the starting stock on the day of undercoverage and the requirement on this day (i.e. the day of undercoverage).

Stock = 240 pc

1. day: Requirement for 90 pc => stock = 150 pc

2. day: Requirement for 70 pc => stock = 80 pc

3. day: Requirement for 100 pc => undercoverage

Days' supply (range of coverage) = 3 workdays less 1 + 80/100

= 2 + 0,8

= 2,8
