Documentation
Definition
A depreciation area represents the valuation of assets for a particular purpose (for example, for book depreciation, tax depreciation, group depreciation, valuation of net assets, or cost-accounting depreciation). Every depreciation area belongs to a chart of depreciation, and can manage values independently from other depreciation areas.
However, you can define depreciation areas so that it is possible to use one area to check the values of another area, or so that one area can take over values from another area. Alongside real depreciation areas, you can define derived depreciation areas. Derived depreciation areas calculate their values from two or more real depreciation areas, and you can use these derived values in reporting.
The posting depreciation area can post values to the general ledger. It must be a real depreciation area (and not a derived depreciation area). For the purpose of parallel accounting, you can define several posting depreciation areas that post to the general ledger.
Use
When you enter an asset transaction, specify either the posting depreciation area and/or the corresponding ledger group.
