Definition

Depreciation area, which is managed in the system as a real depreciation area (not a derived depreciation area).

Each depreciation area is set up to handle depreciation for a particular purpose (e.g. book depreciation, tax depreciation, group depreciation, cost-accounting depreciation, etc.)

Every depreciation area belongs to at least one chart of depreciation, and is managed independently from other depreciation areas. However, you can define depreciation areas so that it is possible to use one area to check the values of another area, or so that one area can take over values from another area.

You can also define derived depreciation areas. The values in a derived depreciation area are determined from the values of real depreciaton areas, using a mathematical relationship, which you define (for example, reserve for special depreciation).

Use

You have to enter, as depreciation area for assets, the depreciation that has the Customizing setting "1 - Post assets in General Ledger in realtime". In the standard system, this is depreciation area "01".

This report can only provide results for the depreciation area that posts to the general ledger in realtime.

Use

The system uses the value from this depreciation area for the display of the amounts to be settled in the line item list display.

Use

An additional depreciation area can be selected in order to display the values of another depreciation area in the line item list of the asset under construction. This is useful, for example, if a depreciation area is managed in a different currency.

Dependencies

At a minimum, the following fields have to be visible in order to display the additional depreciation area:

  • Posting amount in additional depreciation area
  • Additional currency

The following fields can be displayed as additional information about the additional depreciation area:

  • Additional depreciation area
  • Short text of additional depreciation area

Example

Supplementary Documentation - AFABE_D 0210

Use

In this depreciation area the System reduces the acquisition costs by the amount of the investment subsidy. The acquisition costs, which have been thus reduced, are then used as the basis for depreciation.
