Definition
In certain instances, the rules governing remaining book value may be violated when you call up a derived depreciation area (for instance, the remaining book value may be positive when the rules require it to be negative). When this happens, the system makes modifications in one of the "real" depreciation that make up the calculation formula forming the derived depreciation area, so that the remaining book value rule is not violated in the derived depreciation area.
Example: The remaining book value in a derived depreciation area is not allowed to be positive. If this value would nonetheless be positive, based on the the values in the formula, then the system modifies the values in one of the real depreciation areas.
This modification only takes place if the derived depreciation area has actual accounting relevance (such as, special depreciation reserves in Europe) and is not an area for reporting only.
If a modification is necessary, but no modification depreciation area has been entered, then the modification is carried out based on internal program logic.
