Definition
The effective duration of a business event is the number of days on which the business event actually takes place. It is calculated as follows on the basis of the business event schedule chosen:
Effective business event duration = Total duration - Number of days off
The total duration is the same as the highest day number in the day schedule selected or in the user-defined schedule.
The number of days off is derived from the number of unreserved days (gaps) in the day schedule selected or in the user-defined schedule.
In the case of business events that recur on a weekly or monthly basis, the value calculated is multiplied by the number of dates.
Procedure
No input is required here since the business event duration (in days) is calculated automatically by the system.

Use
You must enter the business event duration completely, i.e. you must specify the duration in both days and hours. The entries are interpreted as the actual duration (actual duration of business event in days = total duration - non-working days). The system checks whether the duration in hours corresponds to the duration in days (duration in days * 24 less or equal to duration in hours). If this is not the case, the system outputs an appropriate error message.
If the user only enters a start date in the Date field, the system calculates the end date automatically from the specified duration in days. This must be moved back by the user if the business event period contains non-working days, since the system does not carry out any checks with the calendar.
The system checks that the business event duration specified is not longer than the business event period set. If it is, a message to this effect is issued. However, the reverse situation (business event duration shorter than the business event period set) is admissible because of the occurrence of non-working days. (see above).
When a schedule has been stored in a work area, the field is set according to this schedule. After this, no further input is possible in the fields for business event duration. Entries can only be made if the schedule is reset using F14.
