If a target ledger is specified, posting only takes place in this ledger. Other accounting applications are not updated.

The specification of a target ledger is optional:
If you do not specify a target ledger, posting takes place in all special purpose ledgers and other accounting applications (FI General Ledger, Controlling, Profit Center Accounting, and so on).
