Activating Telephony

If telephone integration is to be used in this system, you have to activate telephone support. This function displays the telephone functions on computers that are assigned to a SAPphone work center.

Choosing Work Center Identification

The SAPphone work center has to be created for the system to be able to recognize the connection between a computer and the correponding telephone. There are various options for identifying work centers:

  • Identification by registry entry

    This does not work if the telephony functions are called in a Web browser (ITS -work center).

  • Identification by host name
  • Mixed identification
    • Registry and host name
      • SAP GUI work centers are identified by registry entry, ITS work centers by host name.
    • Registry and user
      • SAP GUI work centers are identified by registry entry, ITS work centers by the user logged on.
    • Registry and temporary identification
      • SAP GUI work centers are identified by registry entry, ITS work centers have to be created again every time a new logon is executed on a computer.

Recommendation

We recommend identification by registry entry, by host name, or a mixture of the two options. You should only choose a different identification type if the prerequisites for the identification types recommended cannot be fulfilled.

Activities

1. Execute the node Activate telephony / Work center identification.

2. You can make the following settings:

Activate telephony

Select Telephone support active.

Choose work center identification

Select one of the following options, depending on the prerequisites of your system environment:

  • Never use host names (identification by registry entry)

    Prerequisites

    • The SAP GUI is installed locally on every work center.
    • Telephony functions are not used in the Web browser.
    • All computers have a 32-bit Windows operating system.
    • The users who created the work center have authorization to write in the registry of the relevant computer.
  • Always user host names

    Prerequisites

    The host names of the computers are unique throughout the system.

  • Host names only for ITS work centers (registry and host name)

    Prerequisites:

    The prerequisites for identification by registry entry apply to SAP GUI work centers, those for identification by host name apply to ITS work centers.

  • Never use host names and link work center to user (registry and user)

    Prerequisites

    The same users always work on the computers for which the prerequisites for identification by registry entry cannot be fulfilled.

  • Never use host names without linking work centers to users (registry and temporary identification)
