With a time profile you specify the various time periods for working in the project planning board.

Evaluation period

The evaluation period defines the time frame for working with and displaying data in the project planning board.

Outside of the evaluation period in the project planning board, you can no longer work with or display data.

The evaluation period is always calculated based on the project duration

and the float times defined in the time profile.

Planning period

The planning period defines the time frame for carrying out current planning in the project planning board. The planning period can be

  • smaller or the same as the evaluation period. The planning period is always in reference to today's date or the project start and finish
  • date:
  • If today's date is within the project time frame, the planning period is

calculated based on today's date and in the float times defined in the time profile.

  • If today's date is not within the project time frame, the planning

period is calculated based on the project start date, the project finish date, and the float times defined in the time profile.

In the project planning board, the planning period is displayed with a

  • different scale on the time axis.

Entry types

For each period you can specify using entry type the way you want

  • to enter the date.

Calculating float times

Float times are always calculated based on today's date and the off sets

  • defined in the time profile.

Examples

  • Evaluation period
    • Entry type J (calendar month)
    • Start date -1
    • Finish date 6
    • Today's date 4/15/2003
    • Project start 2/15/2003
    • Project finish 5/31/2003
    • Float time for evaluation start: the float time runs, in this case from

the first day of the month, one month before the current month to

today's date, based on the entry type of the calendar month.

cannot delete them.
Calculation: 3/01/2003 - 4/15/2003 = -45 days
  • Float time for the evaluation finish: based on the entry type of the calendar month, the float time runs, in this case from today's date to the last day of the month, 6 months after the current month.
  • Calculation: 10/31/2003 - 4/15/2003 = 199 days
  • Evaluation start date: the start date for the evaluation time frame is always calculated based on the project start and the calculated float time for the evaluation start.
  • Calculation: 2/15/2003 - 45 days = 1/1/2003
  • Evaluation finish date: the finish date for the evaluation time frame is always calculated based on the project finish and the calculated float time for the evaluation finish:
  • Caluation: 5/31/2003 + 199 days = 12/16/2003

  • Planning period
    • Entry type J (calendar month)
    • Start date 0
    • Finish date 4
    • Today's date: 4/15/2003
    • Project start date: 2/15/2003
    • Project finish date: 5/31/2003
    • Float time for the planning start: the float time runs, in this case, from the first day of the current month to today's date, based on the entry type of the calendar month.
    • Calculation: 4/1/2003 - 4/15/2003 = -14 days
    • Float time for the planning finish: the float time runs, in this case from today's date to the last day of the month, 4 months after the current month, based on the calendar month entered.
    • Calculation: 8/31/2003 - 4/15/2003 = 138 days
    • Planning start date: the start date for the planning period is calculated in this case based on today's date and the calculated float time for the planning start:
    • Calculation: 4/15/2003 - 14 days = 4/1/2003
    • Planning finish date: the finish date for the planning period is calculated in this case based on today's date and the calculated float time for the planning finish:
    • Calcuation: 4/15/2003 + 138 days = 8/31/2003

Further notes

  • You can not make entries in the posting period or the factory calendar for the evaluation or planning periods.
  • See consulting note 207514; it contains more information about how the evaluation period and planning periods are calculated in the project planning board.
