In this step, you control:
- How postings are updated into the project information database
Summarized project data is updated in this database. It contains the costs, revenues, and payment data of all objects belonging to a project. The summarization is by value category.
- Whether value categories are to be created automatically
- If the "Automatic value categories" indicator is set, the value categories are created automatically according to the cost elements or commitment items.
Value categories are created automatically when the project information database is reconstructed, or each time you post data. - If this indicator is not set, you must create and maintain value categories manually.
Standard settings
In the SAP standard, data is updated later, during the V2 update for performance reasons. You can convert it into a V1 update (direct update).

Further notes
Automatic value category creation can adversely affect system performance.
If you set the automatic value category creation indicator after postings have already been made, you must maintain the missing assignments manually and reconstruct the project info database. If you do not, the cost elements/commitment items already posted to will have no value category.
The value categories also control the interest calculation of a project ("Interest relevance").
