Use
Whenever you enter a clinical order or a visit appointment for a patient, without searching for the patient in the patient master, the system creates a new patient with provisional master data.
When you create the admission or the visit for this patient, you have to run the patient search so as to avoid duplicate entries. The data you entered for the patient in the clinical order or the visit appointment is available for the patient search.
To make sure that the patient search returns a representative number of hits, you can implement the Business Add-In (BAdI) ISHMED_PATSEARCH to translate the search criteria from the specifications made in the clinical order or in the appointment into a format that matches your standardized search methodology. For example, this could be the patient's birthdate plus the initial letter of his or her last name.

When the patient search is triggered by the program flow, the system uses as standard the patient's first and last names as they are entered in the clinical order or in the appointment.
