"Consolidation companies" are created by combining (legal) companies with business areas. Consolidation companies form the basis of business area consolidation.
In this step, you define the consolidation companies as being combinations of (legal) companies and business areas. Before you do this, you need to define your consolidation companies in the Enterprise Structure IMG (see the "Requirements" section below).
Please note that each company also needs to have one combination of the company with a fictitious (dummy) business area. You create this consolidation company by specifying the company and leaving the business area blank. All activities to which no business area is assigned are then allocated to that consolidation company.
You need to perform this step only if the following preconditions exist:
- You use the data transfer method "rollup" (for example, from a custom ledger) to report data for business area consolidation to the Consolidation system.
- The reported financial data already contains the consolidation companies and trading partners.
In this case, you need to determine the consolidation companies either immediately while updating the rollup ledger, or when then rollup file for consolidation is created, using the coded companies and consolidaton business areas (or trading partners and the partner consolidation business areas). This is generally done with user exits.
We need to distinguish between two cases:
- It is relatively easy to use an algorithm to determine the assignments of companies and consolidation business areas to consolidation companies, and implement such an algorithm in a user exit. In this case, you do not need the manual assignment in this customizing step.
- Otherwise, it is beneficial to manually maintain these assignments in this step. With a user exit that is executed when writing the rollup ledger or when performing the rollup, you can easily access these assignments to determine the consolidation company.
Requirements
You must first complete the steps listed below, which are found in the Enterprise Structure IMG:
- Maintain company
- Maintain business area
- Maintain consolidation business area
- Assign business area to consolidation business area
Activities
- Using the criteria mentioned beforehand, check if you require the manual assignment of this customizing step, or if this can be substituted with your own algorithm.
- If necessary, assign a consolidation company to each combination of company and consolidation business area.
