In detailed planning, you plan the costs of a cost center on a level below the cost element.
This enables you not only to plan, for example, the costs for the materials (such as bulk materials) staged at a cost center as an amount under the primary cost element under which the material costs are updated on the cost center, but also to list each material to be staged at the cost center.
Prices are stored in the accounting and costing views of the material master records. In the costing variant you define a strategy for price selection by linking the costing variant to a valuation variant.
A costing variant contains the following parameters among others:
- costing type
For detailed planning, the standard system contains costing type 03. This costing type specifies that the reference object of costing is a primary cost element. This costing type cannot be changed.
- valuation variant
The valuation variant contains a strategy sequence for selecting prices from the material master, such as:
- Planned price 1
- Standard price
- Moving average price
Note
The results of detailed planning are written to the database as a costing document. You should therefore avoid having two costing variants with the same costing type and valuation variant (even though that is technically possible) to prevent data from being overwritten. The reason for this is that the key structure for the costing results in the database uses the costing type and the valuation variant, rather than the costing variant.
Standard settings
The standard system contains the predefined costing variant PP for detailed planning. This costing variant points to costing type 03 and valuation variant 013.
SAP recommendation
You should assign a different valuation variant to each costing variant with which you intend to save cost estimates.
This one-to-one assignment enables you to change the valuation strategies later as desired.
Actions
- Decide whether the costing variant provided in the standard system meets your requirements.
- To create a new costing variant:
- Enter an alphanumerical key and a text for the costing variant.
- In the detail screen, assign a costing type and a valuation variant to the costing variant.
- If you want to use your own parameters, you must carry out the steps under Define valuation variants.
Note on transport
To transport costing variants manually, choose "Table view -> Transport".
