Splitting structure determine how and what selected activity-independent costs from a cost center are divided between the activity types. This applies to both plan and actual costs.
A splitting structure consists of one or more assignments, which define the connection between the cost element(s) or cost element group to be split and the splitting rule used to divide the costs.
Each splitting rule is based on a splitting method; for example, splitting costs based on statistical key figures.
After you define a splitting structure, you must assign it to the cost centers on which you want to split costs according to the given rules. You can assign a structure to:
- All cost centers
- All cost centers in a given group
- All cost centers in a given interval
The structure can apply to a single version or to all versions in a controlling area for a fiscal year.
Activities
Create a splitting structure or change an existing structure.
To create a splitting structure:
- In the overview screen for structure maintenance, choose New entries.
- Enter a two-character key for the structure, a text, and save your entries.
Define assignments for the splitting structure.
- Select a structure and choose Assignments in the structure tree.
- Choose New entries and include the required entries with a two-character key and descriptive text.
- For the assignment, define according to which rule splitting should be carried out.
You can define new rules or use existing ones.
- Select an assignment and choose Selection for assignment in the structure tree.
- Choose New entries and define which cost element, which cost element interval, or which cost element group is valid for this assignment.
- Save your settings.
Define splitting rules
To create new splitting rules, proceed as follows:
- Select an assignment and choose Splitting rules in the structure tree.
- Choose New entries and enter a key for the rule along with a text and procedure.
Use the "Weighting" indicator to control whether cost splitting uses weighting of tracing factors.
Define the selection criteria for the splitting rule.
- Select a splitting rule and choose Selection for rules.
- Choose New entries.
Additional Information
Check your structure to ensure that no inconsistencies could arise during splitting.
Inconsistencies can result from:
- Overlaps or redundancies between individual values, intervals, and groups
- Deletions of selection criteria, rules, assignments, or structures
In contrast to actual cost splitting, plan cost splitting consists of only a single splitting step. Splitting based on target costs is not possible in planning because actual data is not yet available for creating target costs.
For more information, see the SAP Library under Financials -> CO Controlling -> Cost Center Accounting -> Cost Center Planning -> Periodic Allocations -> Plan Cost Splitting and under Period-End Closing -> Variance Calculation -> Actual Cost Splitting.
Note on transport
To transport splitting layouts, a separate function is available in the General Controlling section of the IMG.
