You define templates for planning primary costs and statistical key figures using formula planning.

Purpose

Templates are also used outside of Cost Center Accounting. Particular environments exist for each use (application) of a template. Before you create a template, choose Maintain Environments and Function Hierarchies. One of the things the environment determines is which row and column types you can choose from in the template to be created.

The following uses (applications)/receiver objects are possible:

  • Template allocations to cost objects or use in standard cost estimates for cost objects and materials (environments 001 - 012)
  • Template allocation to business process, cost center or cost center/ activity type (environments SBP, SCI, SCD)
  • Template allocation to profitability segments (environment PAC)
  • Formula planning (environments CPI, CPD, BPP)
  • Determination of output quantities (environment SOP)

Planning templates are independent of the cost center.

You can use a given planning template for more than one cost center. At the time of evaluation, the system uses a determination strategy to decide which planning template should be used to calculate the plan values.

You can define the costs to be evaluated as variables.

You also define formulas with which the system can determine the costs dynamically at the time of evaluation.

  • You can define the quantity as a variable.

You can use formulas to specify the consumption quantity that is to be claimed by the cost center. The SAP system calculates these formulas at the time of evaluation.

  • You can set individual rows (items) of the planning template as active or inactive.

If you want to plan individual cost elements only on specified cost centers, you can use methods to set them as active or inactive. The system only considers the active items for evaluation.

  • You can use subtemplates.

You can define relationships that are required in multiple planning templates just once and then use them again as subtemplates.

Structure of the planning template

A planning template consists of rows (items) and columns. The following columns are possible:

  • Object type, item category, for example, cost element, subtemplate, calculation row
  • Name of the item
  • Object, such as, name of cost element, subtemplate, calculation row
  • Costs
    • Costs for activity-independent planning
    • Fixed costs, variable costs per activity unit for activity-dependent planning
  • Quantity, such as, consumption
    • Overall quantity for activity-independent planning
    • Fixed quantity, variable quantity per activity unit for activity-dependent planning
  • Activating values

For activity allocations, the following columns are also available:

  • Plan quantity factor variable
  • Plan quantity fixed
  • Actual quantity factor variable
  • Actual quantity fixed

You can either specify the values as fixed in the columns or define mathematical formulas and methods, whose values are determined dynamically by the system during the planning template evaluation.

Requirements

  • To be able to create a planning template, you must already have defined your cost centers.
  • If you want to use user-defined functions, you must have created these in the IMG activity Maintain Environments. For some functions you need to maintain, for example, statistical key figures.

Activities

To maintain a planning template, you need to enter data on an initial screen and an overview screen, from which you can branch to the various editors.

Initial screen

  1. Enter the name of the planning template you want to create or maintain.
  2. Enter the environment of the planning template, such as "Activity-independent cost center planning".

Overview screen

  1. Enter a description for the new planning template.
  2. Select the item category.
  3. Enter a description for the item.
  4. Depending on the specified item category, enter the object (for example, cost element).

For the category cost element, you can specify a fixed cost element as the object or let the system determine the cost element dynamically at the time of evaluation.

  5. In items of category cost elements, you should specify how often they are to be claimed by the cost center.

You can define this quantity either as a constant value or let the system calculate it dynamically during evaluation.

  6. Specify under which preconditions the item is to be activated.

To activate an item, you can specify the values as Active or Inactive or define a method that is returned as Active or Inactive by the system at the time of evaluation.
