You only need to perform the following step if you require your own valuation bases for insurance valuation, and therefore manage a separate depreciation area for insurance.
In this step, you define depreciation keys for the valuation of your fixed assets in relation to insurance policies.
Depreciation keys contain the calculation methods for depeciation calculation and parameters that control
- Ordinary depreciation
- Special depreciation
- Scrap value (cutoff value)
- Calculation of interest
You can enter a separate depreciation key for each depreciation area in the asset master record.
Requirements
You must have already created a chart of depreciation.
Standard settings
SAP supplies the country-specific depreciation keys required in each country, for example:
LINR = Straight-line depreciation from net book value to zero
DG30 = Declining-balance, 3 times straight-line rate

Define additional depreciation keys to meet your requirements.

Further notes (Transport)
You can include the depreciation key in a transport request (Key -> Transport in the overview screen of the transaction). Note that the definition of the depreciation key only applies in one client. Therefore, transport is not only necessary between systems (such as, from a test system to a productive system), but also in order to make the depreciation key available in other clients.
