In this step, you maintain:

  • Sampling types
  • Rules for determining the sampling instruction

The sampling type defines the basic conditions for determining the sample size for each inspection characteristic. A distinction is made between certain basic forms, such as:

To define or adapt the rules for determining samples, integrate the function module responsible for determining the sampling plan in your system. These rules form part of the function that supports the sampling type and are therefore dependent on the same parameters as this sampling type.

Default Settings

The standard system already contains entries for the sampling types. Appropriate rules already exist for each of these entries for the sample determination.

The table has the delivery class G. The following name range is reserved for the user:

  • Sampling type 9*, A*, ... Z*.
  • Sample determination rule 9*, B*, ... Z*.

SAP Recommendations

Do not delete the sampling types and rules for the sample determination contained in the standard system! You can disable the use of the sampling types you do not need.

You only need to maintain your own sample determination rules in special cases.

Match the short texts of the sample determination rules to the texts of the corresponding sampling types, so that you can easily assign a suitable sample determination rule to the sampling type, when you maintain the sampling procedure.

Activities

Determine whether you need sampling types and sampling rules in addition to those contained in the standard system.

  1. Maintain the additional sampling types.
  2. Maintain the additional rules for determining samples. Ensure that the necessary function modules are programmed.

Additional Information

You enter the sampling type when you maintain the sampling procedure. On the basis of this entry, the system proposes an appropriate selection of rules for the sample determination. If there is only one appropriate rule, the system selects it automatically. There is usually only one appropriate rule for sample determination for each sampling type.
Depending on the sampling type and the corresponding rule for the sample determination, the system requires certain input parameters (for example, the sample size of the fixed sample). The input parameters have no units of measure. The sampling procedure, stored at the characteristic level in the inspection plan, determines the sample sizes by multiplying the input parameters by the sample units of measure stored in the inspection plan.

The sample determination rule is stored in the sampling procedure itself and not in the sampling type. This means that the system has the highest degree of flexibility when it determines the sample sizes. Make sure, however, that the system is able to check whether the parameters for the sampling type and the sample determination rule are consistent. You must ensure that the function behind the sample determination rule is compatible with the desired sampling type.

The system also contains sample determination rules that are active on a global level, and do not solely affect the sampling procedure in the inspection characteristic. This occurs, for example, if you define a 100% inspection for all characteristics in the inspection setup of a material.
