In this IMG activity, you define billing types for each institution. This enables you to differentiate various forms of billing or billing variants.
The billing type can be used in other Customizing functions as a criterion for controlling billing (e.g. service code re-mapping, service catalog column determination, pricing) as well as in follow-on functions in the billing area (e.g. revenue accounting, evaluations).

Recommendation
In the inpatient area, it is usually enough only to differentiate general inpatient billing from direct inpatient billing.
Activities
You define billing types by specifying:
- The institution
- The user-defined billing type key (two-character max., alphanumeric)
- The short text for the billing type
- The description of the billing type
- The assignment to an "internal" billing type predefined by SAP
Further notes
You can use the document pricing procedure to determine a different pricing procedure when different pricing types are used. However, the same code letter is often used for the document pricing procedure (e.g. 'A') with all billing types.
