You use costing types to define the technical parameters for unit costing or product costing (including order costing).

The costing type specifies the following:

• What object a cost element refers to

  The following objects can currently be costed:

• Material
• Base planning object
• Primary cost element
• Internal order
• Sales order
• Production order with quantity structure and
• CO production order without quantity structure
• WBS element
• Maintenance order
• Network
• The form in which the costing results are written to the object

  For order costing, you specify whether the costing results are to be treated as planned values or actual values. For example, you can use a costing type to calculate the planned costs of an order. You can use another costing type to valuate material withdrawals, completion confirmations, and so on, and then to calculate the actual costs of an order.

Standard settings

The standard system contains predefined costing types for all objects.

Actions

1. Enter an alphanumerical key and a name for the new costing type.

   The system does not accept numerical keys because these are reserved for the SAP standard settings.

2. Check the assignment of the costing type to a reference object.
3. Define how the costing results are to be written in the reference object.
