In this step, you control the creation of inspections for goods movements or other inventory postings.

For the system to be able to create an inspection lot for a goods movement, the appropriate inspection lot origin must be entered in the update view for the movement type.

You can deactivate the creation of inspection lots in an additional view.

Requirements

The inventory management system is in use.

The inventory management system can control materials that have the stock type "In quality inspection" without the QM component, as long as there is no stock-controlling inspection type active in the inspection setup. If a stock-controlling inspection type is active, you can only make postings in the QM component from the inspection stock, when you make usage decisions for inspection lots. If you change the person responsible for making the usage decision, make sure they are aware of the following; The stock for a material "In inspection stock" should be zero before a stock-controlling inspection type can be activated for the first time, and must be zero before a stock-controlling inspection type can be deactivated for the last time.

Standard settings

Appropriate inspection lot origins have been entered for all movement types in the standard system that contain materials to be inspected. The use of other inspection lot origins is not supported.

For certain movement types that do not usually require inspections (such as reversal movement types) inspection lot creation is deactivated.

Activities

  • If an inventory posting does not cause an inspection lot to be created, even though an appropriate inspection type is active in the inspection setup for the material, you should check the setting for the corresponding movement type, to make sure the correct inspection lot origin has been entered, and inspection lot creation has not been deactivated.
  • If you do not want an inspection lot to be created at an inventory posting, but the standard settings specify this, you can deactivate the unwanted inspection lot creation for the relevant, specified posting key relating to the movement type.

Activating the Quality Inspection with Copy of Current Inspection Lots

If a material is already being inspected when the quality inspection is activated in the QM component, you must create an inspection lot in the SAP system to document the inspection process accurately. This is especially necessary, if the material is to be kept in inspection stock for the duration of the quality inspection, since this stock type can only be managed on the basis of an inspection lot.
There are two possible scenarios:

  1. Inspection stock does not yet exist in the SAP system for this material,

(for example, as a result of a data transfer from an old system or external system).

    1. Maintain and activate the inspection setup in the material master for inspection type 05 (inspection for miscellaneous goods receipt). Depending on your requirements, you can control whether or not a material for this inspection type is posted to inspection stock.
    2. Enter the inspection lot origin 05 for movement type 563 (if necessary, only temporarily).
    3. Post a goods receipt using this movement type for the quantity of goods being inspected. The system creates an inspection lot and posts the lot quantity to the required stock type.
    4. When the usage decision is made, you can now make the required inventory postings (even from inspection stock).
  2. An inspection stock already exists in the SAP system for the material for example, because the QM component was installed after the inventory management system in the MM component). In this case, you have the following options:
    1. Removing inspection stock before an inspection type is activated

First make sure that the quantity of goods in inspection stock is reduced to zero; that is, complete the current inspection and post the inspected quantity to unrestricted-use (or blocked) stock.
    2. Activate the required inspection types in the inspection setup for the material. You can now create and process inspection lots for the quantities of materials to be inspected.
    3. Managing inspection stock with the help of inspection lots
    4. Take the following steps:

Define an additional inspection type for the inspection lot origin 08 stock transfer (inspection type 0800 in the standard system).

Define default values for this inspection type.

Enter this inspection type in the settings at plant level

Once you have fulfilled these prerequisites, activate the inspection types in the material master records, using transaction QA08 for mass maintenance of inspection setup data.
The system then creates inspection lots for each material, batch and storage location that have stock in quality inspection. These inspection lots have the preset inspection type that managed this stock. To create these lots, the system does not retrieve the inspection setup that is entered in the material master, but takes the default values that are defined for this inspection type in Customizing.
Use these inspection lots to make inventory postings for the existing inspection stock.
