Note

As a customer this IMG activity is only for displaying settings made by SAP. You make customer settings in the Customer: Define Field Characteristics IMG activity.

Use

In this IMG activity you define the characteristics of infotype fields. You can define for each field whether it is a mandatory field, whether it is input ready or just for display purposes, and if it is even relevant. You can make these settings depending on the infotype version and the subtype.

At runtime, the decoupled infotype framework evaluates these SAP settings and customer settings for each infotype field in the Customer: Define Field Characteristics IMG activity:

  • If there is an entry for the field for the currently processed infotype version and the subtype of the infotype, the field characteristics are read and taken into account in further processing.
  • If there is no entry for the infotype version and subtype, the infotype framework uses the specified subtype for reading, however without an infotype version (infotype version = SPACE (initial)).
  • If there is also no entry for the subtype, the infotype framework reads the infotype framework but without subtype (subtype = SAPCE (initial)).
  • If there is no entry for the infotype version, the infotype framework reads without an infotype version or a subtype (both = SPACE).

Note

In all cases, the infotype framework first evaluates the customer settings. The system only reads the SAP setting if no customer setting exists. This means that the customer settings are always more relevant than the SAP settings. However, SAP is able to prohibit customer settings. If the Fix indicator is set for a field, customer settings are not permitted for this field. If a customer does make an entry in this field, the system ignores it.

Requirements

Standard settings

Activities

  1. First set the Work Area. Enter the number of the infotype for which you want to maintain the field attributes.
  2. Choose New Entries.
  3. Enter the infotype version or leave it blank if the following specifications apply to all infotype versions of the infotype.
  4. Enter the subtype or leave it blank if the following specifications apply to all subtypes of the infotype.
  5. Enter the name (Type Name) of the P structure (using the convention Pnnnn) that contains the infotype field. nnnn is either the number of the infotype, or the number of the secondary infotype, if it is an infotype view for an infotype version.
  6. Enter the name of the field. The field must be part of the previously specified structure.
  7. Enter whether the field is a mandatory field. If you set the indicator, at runtime the infotype framework checks whether the field contains an entry (whether a value is not equal to the initial value). If this is not the case, the system issues an error message. Such an incorrect data record cannot be written to the database.
  8. Enter whether the field is purely an output field. If you set the indicator, the infotype framework does not allow you to change the field value. If at runtime the infotype framework determines that the field value has been changed, the field is returned to the old value and a warning is issued. Processing continues.
  9. Enter whether the field is unused. A field can be unused if it exists in principle, but is not used in the relevant infotype version. If you set this indicator, the infotype framework does not allow you to make any entries in the field. If at runtime the infotype framework determines that the field has a value, the field values is deleted and a warning is issued. Processing continues.
  10. Enter whether the SAP setting is fix or if a customer can override it. If you set the indicator, the SAP setting is final, The customer cannot override the field characteristics for this field in the Customer: Define Field Characteristics IMG activity. Customer settings for fields with the fix indicator are ignored.
