DICOM Server

The DICOM server is an alternative to MITRA and enables DICOM-conform communication with the RAD and RAD IC modules.

The DICOM server has a separate license, available from your

  • system reseller or
  • directly from T-Systems or
  • from GSD Berlin.

They can also provide you with a DICOM Conformance Statement for the DICOM services supported.

The application areas of the DICOM server include radiology departments who do not plan to use MITRA, but, nevertheless wish to use DICOM log operations.

The DICOM server is separate hard and software, where the relevant software runs.

Hardware/Software

The DICOM server is a separate hardware product, independent of the SAP System. The hardware is a state-of-the-art PC. The DICOM server requires Windows NT as the operating system. Further operating system and software components are installed when the DICOM server is set up.

DICOM Services

The DICOM server supports the C-MOVE operation from the Query Retrieve Service Class and the DICOM Modality Worklist operation from the Basic Worklist Service.

DICOM Modality Worklist: The DICOM Modality Worklist provides the examination devices with worklists based on service requests. The DICOM Modality Worklist is the basis for sensible RIS/PACS integration.

For the DICOM Modality Worklist the examination device requests a worklist from the DICOM server. The DICOM server communicates with the HIS/RIS by RFC. The HIS/RIS will then provide the services according to the Worklist Management. The services are transferred to the examination device as worklist entries.

C-MOVE: The C-MOVE Operation enables the HIS/RIS to distribute images. Prefetching is an application area of image distribution.

The patient identification and the Study Instance UID must be identical in the HIS/RIS and the archive (PACS) in order for an image to be distributed. The HIS/RIS generates the Study Instance UID and sends it to the DICOM Modality Worklist of the examination devices.

The KIS/RIS always initiates the C-MOVE by creating routing orders. These routing orders are processed with the DICOM server for the C-MOVE operation with the RFC-enabled function module ISHMED_GET_CMOVE_MESSAGES.

DICOM Server Architecture

The two DICOM operations are processed on the DICOM Server by two different processes. These processes can be executed as user applications (for the test operation) and as operating system services.

You can use a user interface to adapt the DICOM processes to the hospital environment. The parameters are:

  • Logon data for the SAP System
  • AETitle of the DICOM server for the operation
  • Paths for log files
  • Parameters for performance improvement
