In this IMG activity, you assign alternative scheduling types to your scheduling types for Visit Scheduling in Outpatient Clinic Management in order to increase the flexibility of time slot maintenance.

A scheduling type describes the use of time slots which can be stored per planning object for visit scheduling and also determines the duration of these time slots.

By means of an alternative scheduling type, you can extend the use of stored time slots in the 'open time slot' search function. The use of a time slot is then defined not only by the (primary) scheduling type specified in the system, but also by the alternative scheduling type assigned to this primary scheduling type.

You can condition the 'coming into effect' (validity) of an alternative scheduling type for a time slot by specifying a number of days in the Valid field. The alternative scheduling type comes into effect only when the specified number of days to the (required) time slot from the current date is reached. If you do not make an entry in this field, the validity of the assigned alternative scheduling type is not restricted.

Examples

Usage 1: alternative scheduling types are used to 'refine' roughly defined available time slots

  • (Primary) scheduling type: Initial visit; Duration: 5 mins.
  • Alternative scheduling types for Initial visit:

Initial examination A; Duration: 05 mins Valid: Blank

Initial examination B; Duration: 15 mins Valid: Blank

  • Time slots of a planning object on 10/10/2002:

    8:00 initial visit

    8:05 initial visit

    8:10 initial visit

    8:15 initial visit

    8:20 initial visit

    8:25 initial visit

    8:30 initial visit

    8:35 initial visit

    ....

  1. You search for an open time slot for patient A attending you clinic for an initial examination B on 10/10/2002; the system finds the time slot 8:00 initial visit for initial examination B. You book the appointment.

    8:00 patient A

    8:05

    8:10

    8:15 initial visit

    8:20 initial visit

    8:25 initial visit

    8:30 initial visit

    8:35 initial visit

    ....

  2. You search for an open time slot for patient B attending your clinic for an initial examination A on 10/10/2002; the system finds the time slot 8:15 first visit for initial examination A. You book the appointment.

    8:00 patient A

    8:05

    8:10

    8:15 patient B

    8:20 initial visit

    8:25 initial visit

    8:30 initial visit

    8:35 initial visit

    ....

Usage 2: alternative scheduling types enable deviations from the time slots in order to optimize the utilization of capacity

  • (Primary) scheduling type: Initial visit; Duration 5 mins.
  • Alternative scheduling types for initial visit:

Follow-up examination A; Duration: 05 mins; Valid: 5 days before available time slot

  • Time slots of a planning object 10/10/2002:

    8:00 patient A

    8:05

    8:10

    8:15 patient B

    8:20 initial visit

    8:25 initial visit

    8:30 initial visit

    8:35 initial visit

    ....

  1. On 10/05/2002, you search the database for a follow-up examination B for patient C for 10/10/2002; the system finds the time slot 8:20 initial visit for the follow-up examination B. You book the appointment.

    8:00 patient A

    8:05

    8:10

    8:15 patient B

    8:20 patient C

    8:25

    8:30 initial visit

    8:35 initial visit

    ....

  2. On 10/05/2002, you search the database for a follow-up examination A for patient D for 10/10/2002; the system finds the time slot 8:30 initial visit for the follow-up examination A. You book the appointment.

    8:00 patient A

    8:05

    8:10

    8:15 patient B

    8:20 patient C

    8:25

    8:30 patient D

    8:35 initial visit

    ....
