In this IMG activity, you generate *.TXT files at the frontend in the directory in which you have installed your SAPGUI using predefined test cases from the Computer Aided Test Tool (CATT). These *.TXT files contain the fields to be filled (import parameters).

After you have completed these files with your own import data (with Microsoft Excel, for example), make the files available for the corresponding IMG activity.

Standard settings

The following test cases are delivered in the standard system for the first database in the Dangerous Goods Management (EHS-DGP) component.

Test case    IMG activity

DG_DATA2_DGP1    Transfer dangerous goods masters

Activities

  1. Creating the *.TXT files
    1. Choose Tools -> ABAP Workbench -> Test -> Test Workbench -> CATT -> Edit test case.
    2. The Computer Aided Test Tool: Initial Screen appears.
    3. In the Test case field, enter the key for the standard test case DG_DATA2_DGP1 in the Dangerous Goods Management component.
    4. Choose Goto -> External variants -> Export defaults.
    5. The Transfer to a Local File dialog box appears. The system proposes a path for the *.TXT file. The test procedure key with the file extension *.TXT is proposed as the file name.
    6. Choose Transfer.
    7. The system exports the file to the directory specified.
  2. Maintaining *.TXT files in Excel
    1. Open the generated *.TXT file in Microsoft Excel (see the notes below on Microsoft Excel).
    2. The sequential ASCII *.TXT file displayed consists of the following lines:
      Line 1: import parameter
      Line 2: short texts
      Line 3: no values

The third line is reserved for default values that are not available for the current dangerous goods test case.

Line 4: contains the text "Changes to the default values displayed above are not effective". You must delete this text.
Enter the values from the fourth line onwards.

  1. Processing test files
    1. Step 1
    2. To create test files, take the sample data from the relevant documentation for the corresponding IMG activities and enter this data in the fourth line.

The third line should remain empty.

  1. Step 2
  2. If the test was successful, enter the data to be imported from the fourth line onwards. If not, repeat the sequence above until the data has been transferred correctly to the system.

You should delete the data transferred to the system from the previous test manually before a new test.

Notes on Microsoft Excel

  • When you open the file, the Text Import Wizard - Step 1 of 3 dialog box appears.
  • In step 1 you must have chosen the Delimited button (flagged as standard in Excel 4.0).
  • Proceed to step 2 of 3 and set an apostrophe ' in the Text Qualifier field. Set the checkbox for the separator to tab.
  • Proceed to step 3 of 3 and select all columns. Then choose the radio button Text to select the column data format. Choose Finish.

Notes on maintaining data in Microsoft Excel

  • Select the whole Excel table and use the menu command Format -> Cells -> Number to define the cells in the Excel table as Text under Category.
  • When you enter values, remember to include the leading zeros.
  • If a field in the system has a selection help, check the permitted values in the dialog box. Enter one permitted value only for the corresponding import parameter.
  • You must enter a value in all required fields in the dialog box.
  • If you do not want to fill a cell, enter !. Cells may not be empty, apart from cells in the third row.
  • Maintain one new variant (data record) for each row.
  • To import a data record, you must have entered the key value for the data record at least.
  • The system transfers checkboxes if they are flagged with 'X'.
  • You can maintain up to 99,999 data records.
  • When carrying out the import, the system reads the values from the fourth line onwards.
  • Save the file as a Text *.TXT file. Choose the name of the corresponding test case as the file name DG_DATA2_DGP1.TXT.

General notes on the system

  • Existing data records are not deleted for first database. The system simply notes in the log that this item already exists.
  • Entries to be overwritten must be deleted manually beforehand.
  • The Excel document must be closed before it is imported into the system.
  • A check routine permits date entries for 01.01.1300 or later.
  • The material must already exist.
  • Engineering change management (changing with change numbers) can be used.
  • The system parameter rdisp/max_wprun_time can be used to prevent any timeouts in the system. To use this, contact your system administrator.
  • Input fields can appear several times in the dialog box. However, they only appear once in the file currently being processed.
  • If an error message occurs in the log, the test case can be restarted by positioning the cursor on the test case and choosing Execute. This causes the test case to restart with processing mode in the foreground. In this mode, you can filter out the fields that caused error messages.
  • Choose System -> User Profile -> Own Data -> Defaults. You should choose the decimal point as the decimal notation.
  • To enter character strings, the string must begin with two single apostrophes and end with one single apostrophe: ''string'.
