Use

In this Customizing activity, you set up the WWI destination that you require for each client and then you assign the corresponding WWI generation servers to the WWI destination.

If you have specified background generation as the generation server usage under WWI and EH&S Expert Server Administration, the system checks whether the RFC destination specified in this Customizing activity is assigned to the WWI generation server. If this is not the case, the WWI generation server is created in the WWI Destinations view. In addition, the following values are transferred to this Customizing activity:

  • WWI destination
  • Destination type
  • Printer type
  • Process type
  • Application component
  • Automatic Assignment of WWI Destination Permitted checkbox [selected]

The WWI generation server with the specified printer is assigned to the WWI destination in the Assignment of WWI Server to the WWI Destination view.

Note:

If you want to use EH&S Native Language Support (EH&S NLS) to generate reports, you need to set the MULTI_CODEPAGE_SUPPORT environment parameter in the Customizing activity Specify Environment Parameters.

For more information, see:

  • The IMG activity Specify Environment Parameters
  • The IMG activity Set Up EH&S Native Language Support
  • The section EH&S Native Language Support in the Basic Data and Tools documentation

Setting Up the WWI Destination

You check whether the standard entry exists and enter the language-dependent description if required. You can also set up WWI destinations depending on the type of report generation order. To do this, you use the Component ID and ProcType fields:

  • Application Component

Report generation orders can be generated from the Report Shipping component or the Report Management component.

  • Process Type

There are two process types: Immediately and Background.

    • If the report generation order was started from Report Shipping, the SAP system uses the process type of the report shipping order as the process type for the report generation order.
    • Example: Report shipping orders that were started with the process type Immediately generate report generation orders with the process type Immediately.
    • If the report generation order was generated from the Report Management component, the SAP system derives the process type from the reason for the report request as follows:
    • Note: The possible reasons for the request are created as fixed values in the domain ESDREQREAS:

Process Type    Reason for Request

Immediately    MANUAL: Manual request from the report information system

Immediately    SELECTION: Automatic request because report selection failed after request from SD interface

Background    SUBCHANGES: Automatic request that was generated due to a specification change by worklist generation

Background    PHRCHANGES: Automatic request that was generated due to a phrase change by worklist generation

The SAP system selects the WWI destination for a report generation order as follows:

  • Destination Type Check

The following destination types are possible for report generation orders:

    • GEN (generate)
    • GEN/PRN (generate and print)

WWI destinations for which the type PRN (print only) has been entered are not taken into account.

  • Printer Type Check

The printer type is only checked for report generation orders for which a particular printer type is required. At present, this is not the case in the standard system.

After the destination type and printer type have been checked:

    • If one WWI destination is selected, this is assigned to the report generation order, regardless of the values in the ProcType and Component ID fields.
    • If multiple WWI destinations are selected, the ProcType and Component ID fields are taken into account.
    • If no WWI destinations are selected, an error message is issued.
  • Process Type and Application Component ID Check

If multiple WWI destinations were selected for a destination type and a printer type, the SAP system attempts to select a WWI destination for which the process type and application component correspond to the values of the report generation order.

    • If multiple corresponding WWI destinations are found, the system selects the first WWI destination for which there is an active WWI generation server.
    • If no WWI destination is found, the SAP system attempts to select a WWI destination for which the ProcType field corresponds to the process type of the report generation order and the Component ID field does not contain a value.
    • If no corresponding WWI destination is found, the SAP system attempts to select a WWI destination for which the Component ID field corresponds to the application component of the report generation order and the ProcType field does not contain a value.
    • If no corresponding WWI destination is found, the SAP system does not assign any WWI destinations to the report generation order.
    • As a consequence, the report generation order is distributed to a WWI generation server via the dispatcher, regardless of the WWI destination. The report generation order is then assigned to the WWI generation server that has the lowest number of report generation orders to process at the time of distribution.
      Note:
Distribution is performed in the same way if you have not filled the ProcType and Component ID fields and several appropriate WWI destinations were selected for the report generation order after the destination type and printer type were checked.

Assignment of Generation Server to the WWI Destination

After defining the WWI destination, you specify the link between the generation servers (WWI servers) or the PC for printing and the WWI destination. The following problems can occur when determining the generation server:

  • If a WWI destination was assigned to the report generation order, and the dispatcher determines that no generation server was assigned to this WWI destination, the report generation order is assigned the status Error.

The report generation order must be restarted from the application component from which it was generated.

  • If generation servers are assigned to the WWI destination, but none of the generation servers are activated at the time of distribution, the report generation order is assigned the status Waiting. The system tries to distribute the report generation order again the next time the dispatcher is run.

Standard settings

  • WWI dest.: DEST1
  • Description: Default WWI destination
  • Destination type: GEN/PRN (this means that the server can be used for both generating and printing).
  • Printer type: DEFAULT
  • Automatic Assignment of WWI Destination Permitted checkbox [selected]

Do not make any changes to these Customizing settings.

Activities

Specifying the WWI Destination

  1. Call the Customizing activity and check the default settings described above.
  2. Enter the language-dependent description in the logon language that you use.
  3. Specify the application component and process type if you want to restrict the use of the destination for certain types of report generation orders.

Assigning the WWI Generation Server to the WWI Destination

  1. Start the Customizing activity and choose Assignment of WWI Server to the WWI Destination.
  2. Enter the following data:
    • WWISV: Enter the key for your generation server. If you have created multiple generation servers for one client, enter all of the keys.
    • Note: You have defined the key for the generation server in the Customizing activity Specify Generation Servers and assigned it to an RFC destination and a WWI root.
    • Windows printer: Enter Default. This corresponds to the default printer that is entered in the print manager of the respective PC.
    • Other windows printers are not supported at present.
