Use
The validity area determines in which jurisdictions values assigned to specifications apply.
You specify validity areas depending on the validity area categories. You can use the validity area categories to define plants, business areas or regions, for example, as validity areas.
You can assign individual jurisdictions or organizational units at a lower level to each validity area, for example:
- You can assign countries and regions from the country table as validity areas for validity areas of the category REGION.
- You can assign other organizational units for validity areas of another category.
The definition of validity areas is closely linked to the requirements for reports.
The validity areas in this IMG activity are also used in other components, such as Dangerous Goods Management.
Example
Validity area "European Union" is made up of the member states. You would have to assign all of the member states' country keys.
Standard settings
Standard settings are delivered.
Activities
- Analyze the validity of value assignments for jurisdictions.
- Group the jurisdictions to form validity areas.
- When setting up usage profiles or when assigning the value assignment usage, consider that it is possible to exclude validity areas. If, for example, Italy's regulations require details on documents that are different from those required in other European countries, you do not have to set up a validity area containing all European countries except Italy. Instead, for the value assignment usage, you can specify validity area Europe, and exclude Italy using the Excluding indicator.
- Assign the following jurisdictions to the validity areas you specified depending on the validity area category (at a lower level if required):
- Country and region (Country and Region fields)
- Organizational units (Validity area field)
Further notes
Once you have used a validity area in a productive system, it can no longer be deleted.
