In this IMG activity, you define value assignment types. Value assignment types link the classes in the classification system and properties of specifications.

Requirements

You have defined the required classes and the respective characteristics in the classification system.

Recommendation

Class name and value assignment type should be identical.

Standard settings

Default settings are supplied.

Activities

To specify new value assignment types, proceed as follows:

  1. Call the IMG activity.
  2. Choose New Entries.
  3. Specify a key for the new value assignment type and enter a description. This description is displayed in the EH&S system. To edit other languages, choose Utilities -> Choose Languages.

    Note:

The first 31 characters of a description should be different for different values assignment types. If characters are identical, runtime errors may occur when you output data from the specification information system in Microsoft Excel.

  4. Enter the required data on the detail screen for the value assignment type. Note the following points:
    • Specify the value assignment category for the value assignment type. The value assignment category is stored in an SAP system table.
    • Assign the class.
    • Set the control indicators if required.
    • - You can specify whether a value assignment is to be set to active automatically. You have to distinguish between copying, creating, and changing value assignment types. We recommend that you work with automatic activation during the test phase before productive start and in your test system.
      - You can select the Single Instance checkbox to specify that only one value assignment instance can be assigned to a value assignment type.
      - You can select the Invert Axes checkbox to specify that the value assignment instances are displayed vertically on the initial screen for the value assignment type.
      - You can select the Int. VA Type checkbox to specify that a value assignment type is used internally only and is therefore not displayed in the property tree.
    • If necessary, assign a usage profile.
    • If necessary, assign an identification listing in the ID listing field.
    • If necessary, assign a user exit function module in the Screen Function field to branch to your own user-defined dialog box. In the standard system, the function module C107VAT_ENTRY is supplied. You can use this to enter value assignment data in a table (see Set Up Table-Based Value Assignment). This function module is used in the standard system for all value assignment types for which you do not specify a screen function.
Note: If you use customer-specific screens, copy function modules C107VAT_SUBSCREEN_CLOSE and C107VAT_HANDLE_SUBS_OKCODE to your customer-specific function group. Ensure you adhere to the following naming conventions:
      <function group>_ENTRY
      <function group>_SUBSCREEN_CLOSE
      <function group>_HANDLE_SUBS_OKCODE
  5. In the overview tree, choose Specification Type and specify the specification types for whose specifications you want to:
    • Suppress the display of the corresponding value assignment type in the property tree (P indicator)
    • Permit the assignment to compositions and listings (C indicator)

If you do not enter a specification type, the value assignment type is available to specifications of all specification types in the property tree, and specifications of all specification types can be assigned in compositions and listings.

  6. In the overview tree, choose Sequence of Tab Pages and specify the following:
    • Which tab pages are to be hidden
    • In which order the remaining tab pages are to be displayed

If you do not make any entries, all tab pages are displayed in the default order.

      Notes

    • You must not hide the VAL (Value Assignments) tab page.
    • You enter value assignments using a value assignment table. If certain data cannot be entered in a value assignment type and you hide a tab page for it, you must ensure that the fields from the tab page are also not displayed in the value assignment table (see Set Up Table-Based Value Assignment).

Further notes

Once value assignment types are used in a productive system, they can no longer be deleted. To check whether a value assignment type has already been used productively, check in the data browser (SE16, SE16N or SE11) by calling table ESTVH and entering the value assignment type in field ESTCAT. If entries exist, the value assignment type must not be deleted because deletion would lead to data inconsistencies.

In the same way as for the other value assignment types, you can enter defaults for the usage of the status entries of a specification, for the usage of the identifiers, and for the restrictions of the header data:

To do this, enter a usage profile as follows:

  • Value assignment type ESTST for status entries on the detail screen

If a specification does not have its own status entries, the system generates a list containing the combinations of the individual statuses and the usages of the profile, and takes them into account.

Note: If you have selected the exclusion indicator for the usage profile, this is not taken into account by the value assignment type ESTST. The list of status entries is not displayed for the specification status.

  • Value assignment type ESTRI for identifiers on the detail screen
  • Value assignment type ESTRH for restrictions to header data on the detail screen

As long as you do not assign a usage explicitly in the application or override the default by means of a user profile, the SAP system takes the respective default setting into account.
