The identification type determines the specific meaning of an identifier. Together with the identification category, the identification type determines the identifier.

Settings for the identification type:

To define an identification type, you have to make the following settings:

  • The maximum length of the identifier (between 1 and 240 characters)
  • Indicator for language dependency
  • Conversion into upper case
  • Assignment of a check function
  • Only alphanumerical entries permitted

Identification category "name"

For identification types of the category "name," you have to define whether the name is language-dependent or not. Language-dependent names are only output in an EH&S document if the name exists in the document language.

Identification category "number"

For identification types of the category "number," you can, among other things, assign a check function. Currently, the following check functions are contained in the standard system:

  • C142_INDEXNO European index number
  • C142_EINECSNO European EINECS nummer
  • C142_CASNO Chemical Abstract Service Nummer

Identification category "chemical formula"

You can enter structure formulas, for example, under this identification category.

Standard settings

Standard settings are delivered.

Recommendation

SAP recommends that you use the existing identification types and only add new ones if necessary. Data exchange is easier if you use standard definitions.

Example

Examples are contained in the standard entries.

Activities

  1. Check the existing identification types and define new entries if necessary.
  2. If necessary, create function modules that check numbering conventions you define.
  3. You must assign a specification category to each identifier (identification category/identification type).

Further notes

Once an identification type has been used in a productive system, it can no longer be deleted.
