Use

In this IMG activity you specify the specification types. Each specification type must be assigned to at least one specification category that categorizes the specifications comprehensively (according to substances, agents, packagings, and so on).

Specification types are used to categorize the specifications further. The specification types determine the role that a specification can have in specification management. For example, for each specification type, you can determine which property trees you can choose from, and whether materials may be assigned to a specification type.

The number ranges are also linked to the specification types. You can assign different number ranges for each specification type.

When you enter a number manually, you can use a check function that ensures that the number does not conflict with conventions (such as for structures using separators).

Example

Specifications types for specification category Substance:

Specification types for specification category Agent:

  • Noise
  • Climate
  • Psychological factors
  • Material
  • Real substance

Default settings are shipped.

Activities

  1. Specifying the specification types

Check the proposed specification types and define new entries if required.

  2. Specifying the number range

Check the number assignments. If required, set up new number ranges using the IMG activity Specify Number Ranges for Specifications.

To include a check for the numbering conventions, proceed as follows:

    1. In the IMG activity Manage User Exits, enter the user exit SUB_SCATCH and assign a user exit name.
    2. Copy the standard function module C142_SUBCAT_SUBID_CHECK and adapt the copy to suit your requirements.
    3. Assign your function module to the user exit.
    4. In the User exit name field in this IMG activity, enter your user exit name.
  3. Assigning a standard component type

You can assign a standard component type to each of the components that you assign to a specification of a particular specification type. To do this, use the Value assignment type and Characteristic fields on the detail screen for the specification type.
Using these fields, you define for which characteristics in the property tree you can specify a standard component type. The SAP System enters the standard component type automatically if you create a composition for a specification that is assigned to the relevant specification type, and assign a specification as a component for which the characteristic has values assigned.

    Example:

    Prerequisites in the Classification System:

    • The characteristic SAP_EHS_1012_020_COMPCAT (component type) is included with the standard system. The check table TCG76 (component types) is assigned to this under Allowed Values.
    • The characteristic SAP_EHS_1012_020_COMPCAT is assigned to the class SAP_EHS_1012_020 (standard component type).

Prerequisites in Customizing for Basic Data and Tools:

    • The class SAP_EHS_1012_020 is assigned to the value assignment type SAP_EHS_1012_020 (standard component type).
    • On the detail screen for the specification type SPEZART_1, you have assigned the value assignment type SAP_EHS_1012_020 and the characteristic SAP_EHS_1012_020_COMPCAT.

Prerequisites in Basic Data and Tools:

    • You have entered the component type SOLVENT using input help in the characteristic component type in the value assignment type standard component type for the specification SPEZ_1 (toluene, for example).
    • You have created a composition for the specification SPEZ_2 (paintbrush cleaner, for example) of specification type SPEZART_1.
    • You assign the specification SPEZ_1 (toluene) as a component for this composition and confirm your entries.

      Result:

The SAP system determines the characteristic SAP_EHS_1012_020_COMPCAT from the specification type of specification SPEZ_2 (paintbrush cleaner). This characteristic is assigned the component type SOLVENT for the specification SPEZ_1 (toluene).
The SAP system thus enters the value SOLVENT automatically for the specification SPEZ_2 (paintbrush cleaner) as default in the component type field for the component SPEZ_1 (toluene).

If you have created toluene both as a listed substance and a real substance in the system, you can define the standard component type so that it is dependent on the specification type, for example, solvent for the listed substance toluene, and impurity for the real substance toluene.

  4. Assigning property trees

On the detail screen for the specification type, you can specify a property tree that is always displayed as default for the specification of the relevant specification type.

If you do not specify a property tree, and there is no SET/GET setting, the property tree is displayed for which the Default property tree for specification management indicator is set in the IMG activity Set Up Property Trees.

You can use the Default indicator on the detail screen for the specification type to specify whether the user can choose other property trees in the hit list by choosing Utilities -> Settings -> Property Tree. You specify these property trees in this IMG activity on the detail screen for property tree assignment.

If the user has selected a property tree using the input help, the tree is saved as a SET/GET parameter in the user's settings.

    Note:

  5. As a specification category is assigned to each specification type, you assign the property tree indirectly to a specification category. As the hit list is specifically for one specification category, under Utilities -> Settings -> Property Tree you therefore have the choice of all the property trees that were assigned in Customizing to the specification types of your current specification category. The SAP system, however, only allows you to display the property trees that were directly assigned to the relevant specification type for one specification.
  6. Assigning an icon

On the detail screen for the specification type, you can specify an icon. This icon is displayed in the specification workbench in the navigation and detail areas in front of the individual specifications of that specification type. By assigning different icons to different specification types, you can immediately recognize in the navigation and detail areas which specification type a specification belongs to. If you do not assign an icon for a specification type in this IMG activity, the system uses the icon you specified in the IMG activity Set Up Workbench under Object Types.

  7. Assigning the specification category

You must assign at least one specification category to each specification type. You can assign several specification categories to one specification type.

  8. Assigning source specification types

On the Referencing Between Specification Types detail screen, for a specification type you select, you can specify the specification types whose specifications may be used as a source for referencing or for an inheritance relationship.

If you do not specify any source specification types, you cannot create any referencing or inheritance relationships for the specifications of the specification type you selected.

  9. Assigning tab pages

For a selected specification type, you can specify on the Tab Pages for Specification Type detail screen the tab pages you want to see when you edit the header data of specifications of the selected specification type. Note the following here:

    • You must not hide the HEAD (Specification Header) tab page or replace it with your own tab page.
    • If you do not assign any tab pages, all tab pages are displayed that are supplied with the standard system.
    • For each tab page that is to be displayed, you must enter a value for the sort sequence that is greater than zero.

Further notes

Once a specification type has been used in a productive system it can no longer be deleted.
