In this IMG activity, you define the number ranges for the specification key.
Within a client, each specification is identified by a specification key.
Via the specification type, you assign a number range group to each specification. You can assign several specification types to the same number range, and therefore the same number interval.
There are two types of number assignment:
- Internal number assignment
When you create a specification, the SAP system automatically assigns a consecutive number from the number range interval that you have defined.
- External number assignment
When you create a specification, you have to enter a number from the respective number range interval.
Requirements
In order to be able to define number ranges for the specification key, you need authorization for number range object "ESN_SUBID". This object is checked in authorization object "S_NUMBER".
Standard settings
Number ranges for the specification key are preset in the standard SAP system.
Activities
- Determine whether you want to assign the specification key depending on the specification type.
- Change or, if necessary, delete the number ranges contained in the standard SAP software.
- Define the internal and external number ranges as well as the number range intervals.
- Assign the number ranges to the specification types via the IMG activity Specify Specification Types.
Note on transports
You transport number range objects as follows:
Choose Interval -> Transport in the accounting document Number Range screen.
All intervals for the selected number range object are deleted in the target system first. After the import, only the intervals you export are present. The number statuses are imported with their values at the time of export.
Dependent tables are not transported or converted.
