In this activity, you define:
- How the product ID appears on the interface
- How the product ID is saved in the database (essential in the case of purely numeric product IDs)

Standard settings
No presetting has been made in the standard system because of the critical nature of this IMG activity. In particular, it requires you to decide carefully whether product IDs are to be stored lexicographically or not because this decision can no longer be changed once purely numeric product IDs have been created.
Unless you define the product ID length otherwise, the system assumes a length of 40 characters.
Caution
The number of characters you specify will determine whether you can use the product ID as the material number during a data import. For more information, see Product ID Length.
Specifics in CRM
If you are using direct material scenarios with planning in SAP APO, you must replicate ERP system materials lexicographically.
