In this activity, you assign a category hierarchy to an application. By doing this, you enable the hierarchy to be used as a base hierarchy. In the Products component, a base hierarchy is required to create products. Each product must be assigned to a category from this hierarchy.
A further option Assignment per Product Type for Application Product is available in this activity for the application Product. This allows you to assign a different base hierarchy to each product type within this application. Any product type assignment you make will override the higher-level assignment between the hierarchy and application Product. However, if no product type assignment is made, the hierarchy specified for the application will serve as the base hierarchy for all product types.
Note that once products have been created, you cannot change the settings you make here. You can, however, create additional categories in the base hierarchy or assign new set types.
Specifics in CRM
In the Purchasing and Sales applications as well only categories from a particular hierarchy are allowed:
- Purchasing
The hierarchy assigned is used in Enterprise Buyer functions such as shopping baskets, purchase orders, bid invitations, and goods receipts.
- Sales
The hierarchy assigned is used, for example, in orders and opportunities.
When system settings for materials and services are replicated from the ERP system ,the relevant hierarchy is assigned to the corresponding application automatically. In this case, the assignment need not and should not be changed.
If you are not going to replicate data from the ERP system you must have created the hierarchy you want to assign to the application.
