Use

The status concept allows you to model SAP-GP status objects in BW. The system transfers the delivered system status into the BW, as well as the user status you defined yourself.

In this step, assign the SAP GP status objects (user status) that you created yourself to a BW status object.

Background Information

Normally, all statuses are displayed in the SAP GP master data for which an object is currently active. This means that any number of statuses can be active at the same time.

However, there is also a number of mutually exclusive status values, meaning that only one of these statuses can ever be active at any one time, for example "In Processing" and "Completed".

You can combine these statuses in a BW status object and assign each SAP GP status to an individual BW status. The status that is active in SAP GP at the time of the data extraction is then transferred into SAP BW by way of the BW status object.

To semantically divide BW status objects, you can combine them in BW status object groups.

Activities

Make the following steps in this activity:

  1. Create one or more BW status object groups, depending on whether you want to semantically divide your status objects or not. You can divide them by application component.
  2. Create a BW status object.

The data is later extracted into SAP BW using the 3-character name of the BW status object group and the 4-character name of the BW status object.

  3. Use input help to select a combination of user status and status schema.
  4. Assign an ordinal number that is not zero to this combination in the Status- Ordinal field. You can use value assignment to create a semantic sequence of statuses within a BW status object in BW.

You must carry out the following steps to ensure that the current value of the status object can be transferred into SPA BW:

  1. Extract the texts for the BW status into SAP BW and generate a DataSource for a BW status object.
  2. Enhance the DataSource with which you want to extract the object, to which the SAP GP status belongs, into SAP BW. Proceed as follows to do this:
    1. In Customizing of Settings for SAP BW, choose Post-processing of DataSources -> Edit DataSources and Application Component Hierarchy.
    2. Select the DataSource to be enhanced.
    3. Add a field with data type BWST having technical name BWSTYYYXXXX to the extract structure. Here, YYY stands for the BW status object group and XXXX stands for the BW status object.
    4. Make sure that the field is marked for extraction. Use the pencil icon to switch to the change mode for this DataSource. Key figures Selection and Hide Field must not be set. The key figure Field known in Exit must be set.

Upon extraction, the enhanced field is automatically supplied with the ordinal for the respective active SAP GP status.

  3. Create an InfoObject in SAP BW, in which the value of the BW status object can be set. It makes sense to use a naming convention having form ZSTAYYYXXXX here. You can use the InfoObject 0STABUPSYS0 as a model for the technical settings relating to data type, length, and so on.
  4. Assign this InfoObject as an attribute to the InfoObject 0BPARTNER, to which the status belongs.
  5. Use the transfer structure to secure the assignment between the extract structure field and the BW InfoObject.
