Use

In this Customizing activity, you can define queries for Business Context Viewer (CA-EPT-BCV).

Requirements

You can define a new query only if the following applies:

  • In the Customizing activity Define Meanings, you have defined a meaning or you use one predefined by SAP. For more information, see Customizing under Cross-Application Components -> Processes and Tools for Enterprise Applications -> Business Context Viewer -> Foundation, Monitoring -> Define Meanings.
  • In the Customizing activity Define Search Connectors, you have defined a search connector or you use one predefined by SAP. For more information, see Customizing under Cross-Application Components -> Processes and Tools for Enterprise Applications -> Business Context Viewer -> Search Integration -> Define Search Connectors.

Standard settings

The standard system comes delivered with a set of predefined queries (the ID of which begins with 1). You can use these queries directly or copy them to the customer name space (by using an ID beginning with A to Z) changing them as needed.

Activities

  1. Define a query header

The query header includes administrative data and result restrictions, which are relevant for query result attributes.

  2. Define a query classification

Select a context key to define for which application (for example, PLM Web User Interface) and which object type (for example, material, or change number) the query is usable.

  3. Define a search connector

    Select an existing search connector

  4. Define query fields

Query fields define the structure and type of the data that the system sends to and receives from the underlying search connector.

  5. Define result fields

Query result fields define the structure and type of the data provided by the query after query processing.

  6. Define variables

Variables are placeholders in the selection criteria of the query. During query processing, the system replaces variables with concrete values that you have entered manually or the system has determined automatically.

  7. Define selection criteria

Selection criteria define which data the system retrieves from the underlying search connector during query processing.
