In this IMG activity, you define the utility products.
This process consists of three steps:
- Define the utility product
- Allocate utility product set types to the utility product
- Define the field characteristics of the utility product set types
Define the utility product
In the upper level of the view cluster, you define the utility products you want to sell in IS-U Sales Processing. Only products defined here can be included in sales quotations and orders (Utilities Industry -> IS-U Sales Processing -> Create Sales Quotation and Create Sales Product.)
When you have called either of these transactions, specify a key, description, and the SD material on which you want to base your product. If necessary, define default values for the sales organization, distribution channel, and division. You must specify whether the product must be allocated to a premise, and whether the product necessitates electronic data exchange with the distribution company.
You also enter the validity period of the product.
Allocate the utility product set types to the utility product.
For each utility product, you must define which fields are required for configuration of the product. To do this, you allocate utility product set types to a utility product. Every set type contains a group of fields that have a functional relationship with each other (such as those for previous consumption and budget billing plan data).
If a field you require is not contained in a standard SAP set type then you can create your own in Customizing under Define Utility Product Set Types.
Define the field characteristics
You only have to establish a setting here if you want to change the selection of fields in a set type. You can hide a field, or set it as either a required entry field or for output only. You can also set default values to preassign data to the required fields.
If you do not want to specify an entry for a field then it is displayed in the sales transaction as a normal input field.

Further notes
A utility product matches precisely one master data template. You first define the utility product in order to then create a link to it in the definition of the master data template.
