Caution when changing existing service catalogs!

Diagnosis

By changing the column settings of existing service catalogs (i.e. services have already been entered for the catalog) you may generate inconsistent service catalogs or catalogs containing errors.

Examples of illegal changes

  • Changing the number of decimal places.
  • Changing a column type from 'alphanumeric' to 'numeric'.
  • Deleting a column.

Such changes are usually only allowed in connection with the deletion or conversion of the service master data in question.

Examples of permitted changes:

  • Changing a column heading
  • Inserting a column heading in a different language
  • Inserting a new column

System Response

The system does not check whether your entries are 'permitted' or whether the changes you make could result in problems.

Procedure

Please only make changes to existing service catalogs when you have thoroughly checked the prerequisites for such changes. If need be, contact your SAP consultant.

Please give careful consideration to the column settings of new catalogs, since subsequent changes are subject to restrictions.
