Diagnosis
You have attempted to set a different output type for the report. However, the desired output type is only possible for those reports where no compulsory hierarchy is defined for any of the characteristics.

Procedure
Check if the characteristic (or characteristics), for which the hierarchy is defined, can be removed from the report. If this is not possible, choose an output type with which hierarchies can be output (for example the output type "classic drilldown report").
