Definition

When needed, Informix Online dynamically allocates virtual shared memory. The size of each segment is determined by the SHMADD configuration parameter located in the Online configuration file. This file is found in the INFORMIXDIR/etc directory.

It is better to monitor this field to determine if Online typically adds more shared memory to its standard configuration. Then, it is better to compensate for the additional by increasing the startup size configuration parameter, SHMVIRTSIZE. Online is most efficient when operating with fewer large segments than many smaller segments.
