You can handle the difference in (goodwill or negative goodwill) as follows:

• Activation/Amortization
  The difference is activated and amortized over its useful life, with an affect on net income.

• Direct elimination
  The difference is eliminated using an equity item in the year it occurs, without affecting net income.

• Proportional elimination
  The difference is activated and eliminated periodically using an equity item, without affecting net income.

• Statistical
  The difference is disclosed on statistical items for reporting purposes.
  This is only possible when applying the equity method using the book value method.
