Definition

The main assignment is the assignment that uniquely identifies a multiple-assigned material within a material hierarchy.

You can define a main assignment for each material in the material hierarchy at the material level in the standard system. The automatic flag for the main assignment is only set when property Multiple Assignment is maintained or the material hierarchy.

Use

This main assignment has to be checked (if multiple assignment is set in hierarchy maintenance (additional checkbox) and whenever master data is changed (for example, in article maintenance, BAPI). The system checks for uniqueness under the default settings; you can override this check through a BAdI (for example, if one main assignment is to be defined for each company).
