Definition
The median of a group of values is a form of averaging, in which individual stray values hardly influence the average. If you want to determine the median of a group of values, place the values in order of size and choose the middle value in this series of numbers.
Example
The median of the nine values 2, 10, 1, 1, 20, 1, 2, 1, 2 is 2, as this is the middle value of the ordered series 1, 1, 1, 1, 2, 2, 2, 10, 20. Note that the size of the two stray values is irrelevant to producing the median.
