Documentation
Definition
Geographical or organizational area where vehicles are stored ready for use and where the VMS searches for them. It defines the outermost limits for a vehicle search.
The vehicle search area can be dependent on product data (base configuration) and organizational structures (sales organization, plant). In the standard system delivery, the vehicle search area is only dependent on the plant.
Each vehicle can only belong to one vehicle search area.
All the vehicles within one vehicle search area have to be technically compatible and be legally valid in each geographical region involved.
Use
The vehicle search area is copied to the vehicle data when vehicles are created.
You can create vehicle-search rules for vehicle search areas in category management. This results in a unified sales policy.
Dependencies
If you want to make full use of the possibilities that the vehicle search area offers, you have to work with BAPI and/or BAdI when you create vehicles.
Example
Example 1:
The vehicle search area "Benelux" is valid for the sales organizations Belgium, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands. This means that a dealer in Belgium, for example, has access to vehicles from the stock of the Netherlands sales organization, and in turn, a dealer in the Netherlands has access to vehicles from the stock of the Belgian sales organization.
Example 2:
In terms of sales policy, it can be advantageous to separate vehicle search areas into product family levels. Example 1 can be restricted to the supplier's best-selling model. You could also have another vehicle search area called "Europe Gem Sprinter" specifically for the more expensive, less popular model, "Gem Sprinter". A dealer in Belgium then has access to all standard model vehicles in the area "Benelux" but within the "Europe Gem Sprinter" area, the dealer has access to the entire "Gem Sprinter" stock.
