Definition
Characteristic for extracting data from VMS configuration data for the Business Information Warehouse (BW). The characteristics can then be used for running analyses in BW.
Different VMS configuration characteristics can be grouped together in one BW characteristic. This means that the analyses run in BW are more efficient and provide improved results.

Example
In VMS, the characteristic Golf_color can be used for the vehicle model Golf. This characteristic contains the colors bright blue, dark red and white. The characteristic Corsa_color can also be used for the vehicle model Corsa. This characteristic contains the colors sky blue, dark red and olive green.
The VMS characteristics Golf_color and Corsa_color can be grouped in BW in the characteristic color. This BW characteristic then contains all characteristic values, meaning all the colors defined above. A report in BW which is to calculate the total number of all dark red vehicle sold therefore only has to use the characteristics color in any analyses, thereby including all Golfs and Corsas with this color.
