Definition
A relation between two different scale bases (weight and volume, for example) can be established using the bulkiness factor.
Examples
You have made the following agreement with your forwarding agent:
- Freight calculation will be made on the basis of the weight to be transported. Prices depend on the corresponding scaling.
- For goods measured by volume, the following measures are taken:
- Volume (in liters) is divided by 6.
- The resulting number is then compared with weight and the larger of the two is then used as the new weight.
- The calculation is based on this new weight.
The scale basis 'D2' (using base value calculation formula 110) results in the following:
- The scaling is based on the gross weight
- In the base value calculation formula,
- gross weight is converted to unit of measure 1
- volume is converted to unit of measure 2
- volume is multiplied by the given bulkiness factor
- the larger of the two numbers (gross weight and the new volume figure) is now used as the gross weight
- the new gross weight is converted back to the original unit of measure.
Dependencies
The bulkiness factor is found depending which
- bulkiness group and
- scale basis exist.
